This is important information about a revision to the approved 2025-2026 school year calendar to make up a day lost to winter weather last month.
During the Board of Education meeting on Feb. 10, the school system announced a revision to the approved calendar to use one of the designated make-up days. Students of Wicomico County Public Schools will now have school on Monday, March 16th, with 3-hour early dismissal. March 16th is no longer a staff professional day.
The revised calendar is posted in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole on the Calendar page of the school system’s website. Please make sure to use this updated calendar -- with a date of Feb, 10, 2026 in the bottom right corner and March 16th shown as a school day with early dismissal -- as the school year continues.

On Wednesday, March 11, all 11th grade students will take the SAT here at MMHS. Additionally, any 10th grade student who would like to take the SAT, may do so, but will need to make the $68 payment to our testing coordinator by cash/check/or credit card. Payments can be made starting on Monday, February 2nd and continuing until Friday, February 20th. All 11th grade students take the test at no cost. If you have any questions, please see our testing coordinator, Mrs. A. Shiles in her office (A110). More information about the SAT will be coming in the weeks ahead.

The Wicomico County Board of Education will hold a public budget hearing at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 in the Board Auditorium at 101 Long Ave., Salisbury. All are invited to attend to give input for next year's school system budget.

Wicomico County Public Schools invites students, families, and community members to attend the upcoming Career & Technical Education (CTE) Open House and SkillsUSA Event on Saturday, February 7th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Parkside High School.
This annual event provides an inside look at the high‑quality CTE programs that equip students with the knowledge, skills, and hands‑on experience needed to succeed in today’s workforce or continue their education. Attendees will have the opportunity to:
-Explore a wide range of CTE programs
-Watch student demonstrations and live SkillsUSA contests
-Engage with instructors and students
-Ask questions about course offerings, certifications, and career
pathways
In addition to the open house activities, students and staff will be available for interviews to discuss the impact of CTE programs and SkillsUSA on student learning, career preparation, and leadership development.

Inside the Toolbox, a free, family-friendly community trades exploration event hosted by Seaside Toolbox Academy on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 5:00–8:00 PM in Bishopville, MD. We welcome schools, community organizations, students, and families to attend together for an engaging evening of hands-on learning and career exploration.
Inside the Toolbox features interactive trade exploration stations, live demonstrations from local professionals, and opportunities for participants to try real tools, learn about apprenticeship and training pathways, and connect directly with industry mentors. New this year, the event will also include a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Seaside Toolbox Academy and our first-ever Battle of the Trades competition—and if you know the Seaside Plumbing team, you already know it’s going to be a great time! Food and refreshments will be provided, the event is designed to be engaging and accessible for all ages!

On Friday, January 30th, nine members of the Mardela Middle and High School participated in the Wicomico All-County Honors Orchestra held at Wicomico High School. On Friday, January 30, eleven Mardela middle students competed in the school spelling bee. After six rounds of competition, two winners emerged - Sean Tensley, 8th grader, whose winning word was "Nehru," and Elijah Sterling, 6th grade, whose winning word was "fiberglass." These two students will represent Mardela at the regional bee at UMES on March 7. Congratulations to all the spellers, particularly Carter Holden and Keidrick Jackson who remained in the running for five rounds.

The minor applies for a permit online and prints permit.
The minor signs the permit.
The minor's parent or guardian signs the permit.
The employer signs the permit.
Work permits are not issued until the minor has been offered a job.
If the minor changes jobs, a new work permit must be obtained.
