On Wednesday, March 11, all 11th grade students will take the SAT here at MMHS. Additionally, any 10th grade student who would like to take the SAT, may do so, but will need to make the $68 payment to our testing coordinator by cash/check/or credit card. Payments can be made starting on Monday, February 2nd and continuing until Friday, February 20th. All 11th grade students take the test at no cost. If you have any questions, please see our testing coordinator, Mrs. A. Shiles in her office (A110). More information about the SAT will be coming in the weeks ahead.

On Friday, January 30, eleven Mardela middle students competed in the school spelling bee. After six rounds of competition, two winners emerged - Sean Tensley, 8th grader, whose winning word was "Nehru," and Elijah Sterling, 6th grade, whose winning word was "fiberglass." These two students will represent Mardela at the regional bee at UMES on March 7. Congratulations to all the spellers, particularly Carter Holden and Keidrick Jackson who remained in the running for five rounds.

How to Obtain a Work Permit:
The minor applies for a permit online and prints permit.
The minor signs the permit.
The minor's parent or guardian signs the permit.
The employer signs the permit.
Work permits are not issued until the minor has been offered a job.
If the minor changes jobs, a new work permit must be obtained.

The City of Salisbury is excited to offer a paid 8-week employment opportunity for local high school students. Participants will work in various departments within the City of Salisbury, gaining workforce readiness and career-specific skills. The program includes structured learning and mentoring designed to equip teens with the skills and knowledge needed for success after graduation.

Junior Achievement will collaborate with student participants to ensure excellent on-the-job performance and provide guidance on resume writing and the development of soft skills. By the end of the program, participants will have acquired work experience, learned valuable job skills, and gained essential knowledge for future career growth.



Qualifications:

Students must be entering 10th -12th grade for the 2026/2027 academic year
Must be currently enrolled in the Wicomico County school district
Must be able to provide work permit no later than June 22nd,2026
Applicants are required to provide 2 forms of updated identification (Birth certificate, social security card, current student ID or state issued ID)
Must have consistent reliable transportation to & from work
Applicants residency in the City of Salisbury preferred (but not required)
Must be able to work up to 28 hours per week for the 8 week period starting June 22nd, 2026 – August 14th, 2026

The Delmarva Shorebirds, in conjunction with Professional Sports Catering, are excited to announce the upcoming Shorebirds Job Fair at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 9 AM - 12 PM. The Shorebirds and Professional Sports Catering will be hiring for all positions and candidates that are interested in working for the Shorebirds this season must show up for the Shorebirds Job Fair on Feb. 7.

The Delmarva Shorebirds and Professional Sports Catering are seeking people to fill a wide variety of roles for the 2026 season of Shorebirds baseball. Positions include new positions like Amusements and Birthday Hosts and other opportunities on the Grounds Crew, Food Service Jobs, and many more that can be located in the Shorebirds 2026 Job Fair application.

Job seekers are encouraged to fill out an application prior to the Shorebirds Job Fair, which can be found on theshorebirds.com, however, applications will be available at Perdue Stadium on the day of the Job Fair if needed. The interview process should take less than 30 minutes and candidates should refrain from returning their application to Perdue Stadium prior to February 7.

As a member of the Shorebirds staff, gameday employees will receive the following additional benefits:
