Today is National Custodian Day. It recognizes the hard work that it takes to keep our facilities in tip-top shape as well as the people who diligently work to make sure we have schools that are spotless and sanitary. Make sure to show your appreciation for everything they do here at Mardela. One idea to show appreciation is by helping them out in small ways. This can be as simple as wiping down an area after you use it or picking up a piece of trash if you see it on the ground. Please take the time to thank our awesome custodians today and everyday. We hope they enjoy the special gift we will be surprising each of them with today. Thank you again for all you do.
The next monthly meeting of the Wicomico County Board of Education is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 in the Board of Education Auditorium at 101 Long Ave., Salisbury.
For the Oct. 10th meeting, the Board will convene at 1:00 p.m. and immediately vote to go into closed session. The open portion of the meeting will begin at about 1:30 p.m. The agenda for this meeting will be available by the Friday before the meeting on BoardDocs: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/wcboe/Board.nsf/Public
This meeting will be livestreamed on the Watch Board Meetings page of the school system’s website (www.wicomicoschools.org). Meetings are viewable after they have ended and may be accessed in a variety of places, including BoardDocs, PAC 14, YouTube and the website of Wicomico County Public Schools.
On Wednesday, October 11th, we will be administering the PSAT to all 10th graders and any 9th or 11th grade students who signed up and paid to take the PSAT. All other 9th, 11th and 12th grade students remain home that day and will complete asynchronous work at home through their Google Classrooms. This asynchronous work will be utilized for attendance purposes for any student not taking the PSAT. Students taking the PSAT test that day will be exempt from asynchronous assignments. If your student has difficulty accessing the internet, please have them request a paper copy of the assignment from their teacher. The school day will begin at the regular time of 7:45 for test takers and bus transportation will run on its normal schedule in the morning for these students. Please make sure all testers bring your school issued laptop, fully charged, and charger. Students may also bring a snack and drink to have during the break. All test takers will be released after their testing room has completed and receiving a bagged lunch. Students with rides can leave at the end of the test which will be approximately 10:45. Bus transportation will be available at approximately 11:45 with a second bus run at the end of the normal school day. Attached is a student guide about the PSAT. Students completed the fall MAP diagnostic mathematics assessment if they are currently in a mathematics course. Your student will bring home their math MAP report during the week of October 2. If you have any questions about the report, please contact your student's mathematics teacher.

Students will be introduced to a new Career and College Preparation Tool in there classes over the next few weeks called SchooLinks. SchooLinks offers features that allow students to explore, plan, and realize their goals after high school and provides ways for families to support this process. Our Kindness Club will begin meeting on October 4. The first 30 students to return signed permission forms will be invited to join the club. As with all clubs, students must have a 2.0 GPA in order to be a part of this important club. The 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, twice a month after-school from 2:45-4:00pm To find out more and to pick up a permission slip, see Mrs. Armstrong in the guidance office or Mrs. Raygor in the Social Work office, behind the media center. The first 30 students with a signed permission slip returned will be admitted to the club. First meeting in October: 10/4/22 in the OLD Media Center.
The boys varsity soccer game at Washington has been postponed until tomorrow at 6 PM.

Mardela Middle and High is excited to share the NEW Weight Room in full Action. The Weight Lifting Program is off to a great start with Coach Johnson!! Students are loving their new machines and equipment.
CONGRATULATIONS! Mardela Middle and High School has earned a national recognition for our inclusivity with all of our students regardless of their abilities. We have been recognized as a Unified Champion School by the Special Olympics. This is a great honor and was only able to be accomplished thanks to our amazing community who supports ALL children.

Mardela Girls took down rivals Snow Hill 4-0 at home on Thursday. Samantha Witte scored a hat trick and Rylan Rathel added another. The Lady Warriors dominated possession the entire game. The defense didn’t allow a single shot on goal, handing keeper Lexie Guy the shutout.

SGA proudly presents Homecoming 2023 "A Night on Olympus". Spend an evening with Greek gods and goddesses at the Homecoming dance taking place on September 30th from 7-10pm.
This is open to all high school students who have at least a 2.0 GPA with no out of school suspensions. Outside guests from other high schools are permitted to attend with permission from school administration. Guest permission slips can be found in the main office, attendance office, and on your google classroom. Tickets will be sold 9/18-9/22 during lunch shifts.
$15 each - cash or check made payable to Mardela Middle and High School.
If bringing an outside guest, forms need to be approved by admin prior to purchasing tickets.
